John C. “Jack” Hobart, age 70, of New Philadelphia, died unexpectedly, on Friday, February 10, 2012.
A son of the late Glenn and Geneva (Briggs) Hobart, Jack, as he was known by family and friends, was born on the Southside of New Philadelphia on January 9, 1942 and grew up in the area known as Beidler at Goshen Township.
He attended the former Midvale High School and began working for Larson Sewer Pipe at Gnadenhutten. On August 25, 1962, he married the former Trudy Breitmeier and reared four children.
Following a 20 year career with the New Philadelphia Fire Department, Jack retired in 1987. He enjoyed fishing and being a fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns and faithfully followed the Ohio State University football and basketball teams.
Jack loved to banter with and tease his family and friends and looked forward to family vacations, especially the ones in which the family traveled to Tennessee. Jack also enjoyed the fellowship of his friends at the New Philadelphia and Tuscarawas VFW Posts and the Dover Moose.
In addition to his wife of nearly 50 years, he is survived by his four children, three daughters; Theresa (Don) Cooper of Carrollton, Diane (Tim) Sugalski of Strasburg, and Christie (John) Peoples of New Cumberland; and a son, John “Jack” (Edie) Hobart, II of New Philadelphia; a sister, Bonnie (Lonnie) Wolfe of Strasburg and a twin brother, Jim (Sierra) Hobart of New Philadelphia.
Eleven grandchildren, Chase, Jamie, Dustin, Marissa, Paige, Rebekah, Anthony, Brandi, Kate, Victoria, and Eddie as well as three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Richard Hobart, and an infant granddaughter, McKenzie.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 12, 2012 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where a fireman’s service will be held at 4:00 PM. Pastor Chris Malpas will lead a funeral service celebrating Jack’s life in the funeral home’s chapel on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
Following the service, the family invites guests to join them in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the New Philadelphia funeral home, where a meal and fellowship will be shared.
Memorial contributions in Jack’s name may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
