John E. “Beef” Storrie, Jr. 61, of New Philadelphia, a loving father, son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away in The Cleveland Clinic Friday morning, January 22, 2016 following a period of declining health.
Born in Dover on January 24, 1954, he was the son of Dorothy J. (Warner) Storrie of New Philadelphia and the late John E. Storrie.
After graduating from Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School in 1972, he continued his formal education receiving an associate degree in construction from The Ohio State University in 1991, and a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University at Tuscarawas in 2013.
After Beef’s father passed away, he operated their family business, Storrie Homes until 1994. He also served as a lieutenant for the New Philadelphia Auxiliary Police for 27 years.
John dearly loved his children, Meredith and John, and devoted his life to caring for and supporting them. He coached their Pee Wee football and softball teams, as well as other teams. Beef was also a past president for both the state and national Home Builders Association, and a member of Sacred Heart Church.
He will be deeply missed by his children Meredith Storrie of Lakewood and John E Storrie, III, of New Philadelphia; his mother, Dorothy Storrie of New Philadelphia; his siblings, Lisa Bailey of New Philadelphia, Michael (Rita) Storrie of South Carolina, and Thomas (Mindy) Storrie of North Carolina; his best friends, Tom and Jamie Dillon; his nephew and nieces, Zachary Bailey of New Philadelphia, Lauren (Jim) Story of North Carolina, Lindsay Bailey and her son Kayden of New Philadelphia, and Mallory Storrie of North Carolina; his dog, Sloopy; his granddog, Riley; his grandcat, Cotton; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his father, Beef was preceded in death by his infant sister, Laura; his nephew, Ryan Storrie; and his mother-in-law, Joanne Comanita.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home on Wednesday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8, with a Christian Wake Service beginning at 7:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Sacred Heart Church on Thursday beginning at 10:30 am. Inurnment will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
