John Anthony Wysocki

June 7, 1939 — January 19, 2013

John Anthony Wysocki, 73, of Newark, Ohio and formerly of New Philadelphia, Ohio, died Saturday evening, January 19, 2013 at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark, following a long illness.

A son of the late Tony and Helen (Vinskovich) Wysocki, John was born June 7, 1939 at Lafferty, Ohio.

John graduated from Lafferty High School in 1957. That same year he enlisted with the United States Army and served until receiving an honorable discharge in 1965.

He was a long time employee of Tuscarawas County. His career started with the county as the Superintendant of the Tuscarawas County Home. He then became the County Administrator and was involved with various projects such as the restoration of the county courthouse, the construction of the county annex building, the county dog pound, and the implementation of the 911 system. John retired in 2001. Following his retirement, he and his wife, Patricia, relocated to Newark.

He was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia and attended Springhill Baptist Church at Granville, Ohio. John enjoyed gardening, painting, traveling and hunting in his younger years. Most of all, he enjoyed being in the company of his family and he felt blessed to have the opportunity to be near them in his later years.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Sommer) Wysocki; a daughter, Jonna (Everett) Cavendish of Gahanna, Ohio; a son John (Carrie) Wysocki of Newark; five grandchildren, Danielle and Parker Cavendish and Natalie, Julia and Gabrielle Wysocki; a brother, Paul (Gladys) Wysocki of Lafferty, Ohio and many extended family members.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Anna Marie Wysocki.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, 116 Second Street NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663. A funeral service celebrating John’s life will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Houghton officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the committal service, a luncheon will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.
