Joanne R. Zucal, age 80, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully in her home, Monday evening, September 20, 2010.Born on October 6, 1929, at New Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Kappler) Young.She was a life member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia. A 1947 graduate of the former St. Joseph High School at Dover, she was valedictorian of her class.Joanne was employed by the former Diamond Shop Jewelers at New Philadelphia, the Tuscarawas County Auditor’s Office and the Tuscarawas County Clerk of Courts Office.On May 13, 1961, she married Robert J. Zucal, who survives. They were looking with great anticipation toward and talking happily with family and friends about celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in 2011.Joanne was a loving and devoted mother to her three sons and daughter: John (Wendy) Zucal of New Philadelphia, Robert (Connie) Zucal of Dover, James (Jody) Zucal, and Maria (Darrin) Lautenschleger of New Philadelphia.She was especially proud of and attentive to her eight grandchildren: Caitlin R. Zucal of Orlando, FL; Katrina M. Zucal of Dover; Ethan J. Zucal of Columbus, OH; Madeleine N. Zucal of New Philadelphia; Joshua R. Zucal of Dover; Mary C. (Macy) Lautenschleger of New Philadelphia; AnneMarie Zucal of Dover; and Zachary S. Lautenschleger of New Philadelphia and took great joy in watching the activities and sporting events her grandchildren participated in.Joanne also is survived by two sisters, Sr. Dorothy (Muriel) Young, CDP, and Sr. Bernadette (Mary John) Young, CDP, both of whom reside at the Sisters of Divine Providence Mother House at Pittsburgh, PA; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Petitte of New Philadelphia; and many nieces and nephews complete the family.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Fister, and two brothers-in-law, Joseph Fister and John Petitte.The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 23, 2010, from 4 to 7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Rosary service will begin at 6:30 PM. Fathers Jeff Coning and Martin Ralko will concelebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at 10 AM in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia. Following services, the family would like to invite guests to join them for a meal and fellowship in St. Ambrose Hall, adjacent to the church.Those unable to attend may send the family personal condolences by signing the online guest registry located on the funeral home’s website.There is simply one word to describe Joanne â?? “family.” Her husband, her children and her grandchildren were the center of her life.
