JoAnn Sayre, 67, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, December 4, 2003, at Hennis Care Center in Dover following a long illness.Born October 7, 1936 in East Liverpool, OH, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Lillian Smith Hoppel. JoAnn was a 1954 graduate of East Liverpool High School. During her youth she was active in 4-H and was a finalist at the Ohio State Fair sewing competition with her dress.JoAnn married Norman W. Sayre on January 1, 1955. A devoted wife and mother, JoAnn is survived by her husbanb; three sons, Colonel Steven W. (Karen) Sayre of Scott AFB, IL; Mark R. “Randy” Sayre and David A. Sayre, both of New Philadelphia; and one daughter, Michelle R. Milliken of Wintersville, OH; two brothers, Leroy (Norma) Hoppel and Donald (Carol) Hoppel, both of East Liverpool; two sisters, Evelyn Alexander of East Liverpool and Mary Lou (Bill) English of Strasburg; and six grandchildren.In 1967, JoAnn went to work for Reeves Bank on the square in New Philadelphia as a teller. She later opened her own floral arranging and craft shope, known as “Poor Anne’s” in her home. JoAnn did many beautiful weddings and home decors in the New Philadelphia area.JoAnn was a member of the Church of Christ in North Canton.Upon her death, she was cremated.
