Joan V. Johnson, age 68, of Dover, died early Thursday morning, May 10, 2012 following a courageous battle with cancer.
A daughter of the late Paul A. and Helena E. Waggoner, Joan was born at Canton, Ohio on September 19, 1943.
She was a 1961 graduate of Carrollton High School. On November 23, 1963, at the Dellroy Presbyterian Church, Joan married William E. Johnson. For a number of years, Joan worked for Scio Pottery, Merit Plastics, Central States Can Company, prior to retiring from Sonoco Products at Massillon, a company in which she served for 24 years.
Joan enjoyed being a member of Christ Community Church at Dellroy as well as being active in at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center. During her free time, Joan enjoyed working puzzles, reading, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and attending their activities.
Joan leaves behind a family which includes three daughters, Trisha (Lance) Addison of Uhrichsville, Cheryl Johnson, and Elizabeth Mathews both of Dover; five grandchildren, Luke Addison, Leah Addison, Logan Addison, Taylor Mathews and Jake Mathews; and a special niece, Renea Waggoner.
Completing the family are six brothers, Glenn (Julene) Waggoner, Ronald (Ella) Waggoner, John (Judy) Waggoner, Carl Waggoner, Mike (Linda) Waggoner, and Bruce Moretta; a step-brother, Ron (Sue) Betz; two sisters, Paula (Duane) Gartrell, Judy Lechner, and numerous other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father and step-mother, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, William who died on April 7, 1982; her mother, Dorthea (Wiley) Waggoner Moretta; and two sons, William Eric Johnson and Michael William Johnson.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 13, 2012 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover and again one hour prior to services on Monday, May 14, 2012 from 9:00 – 10:00 AM where Pastors Mark Unrue and Brian Flood will lead a service celebrating Joan’s life on Monday at 10:00 AM. Following the service the family wishes to invite guests to join them in the Hospitality Room of the Dover Funeral Center where a meal and fellowship will be shared.
Private burial will take place in the New Harrisburg Cemetery at Carroll County.
