Joan “Mike” McCartney

Joan “Mike” McCartney, 77, a lifelong resident of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, February 17, 2013 in New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover following a period of declining health.

A daughter of the late Joe A. and Rose “Babe” (Steinbaugh) Robart, Mike was born August 26, 1935 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Mike was a 1953 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and she also attended Ohio University. Over the years she was employed at various businesses, most notably, as a Realtor with the former Robart Realty which was owned by her parents and as a Title Clerk with Connolly, Hillyer & Welch Title Services. She was also a volunteer at the Community Hospice Browse & Buy Store at New Philadelphia. Mike was also a loving homemaker and took great pride in caring for her husband and children. She also found great joy in supporting her children in their events.

She was a member of the First United Church of Christ at New Philadelphia. Mike was also a Tri-Hi-Y Advisor at the Tuscarawas County YMCA, a member of the Union Hospital Auxiliary and the New Philadelphia Jaycees Wives. She enjoyed football and was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. Mike also enjoyed completing crossword puzzles and watching wildlife from her back porch.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Ray McCartney whom she married on February 10, 1956; her children, Dede (Kurt) Shelley, Lolly (Perry) Petrullo, Joseph (Cheryl) McCartney all of New Philadelphia, Lisa (Chris) Coutts of Solon and Jill (Aaron Pace) McCartney of New Philadelphia and her grandchildren, Abby Petrullo, Amy Temple and Scott (Danielle) Petrullo, Carly and Maddy Shelley, Taylor McCartney, Chloe and Haley Coutts and Tess and Elli Becker.

In keeping with Mike’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services and cremation will take place through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover.
