Jesse Junior Sherer, age 76, of Stone Creek, passed away early Thursday morning, May 13, 2010, in Hennis Care Center at Dover following a courageous battle with cancer.Born in New Philadelphia on May 14, 1933, he was the son of the late Jesse C. and Helen M. (Ulrich) Sherer.After graduating from New Philadelphia High School in 1951, Jesse began his professional career as a machinist and then a foreman for Timken Roller Bearing Company. Jesse was the youngest foreman the Timken Company has ever had.He then served as a vocational teacher for Tusky Valley School District before founding J & J Tool & Die Company in Dover in 1966. There he owned and operated the business, also being involved with Foundation Equipment Company. Jesse’s love for his family was felt and visible to all who knew him, participating in whatever activity they were involved in. Jesse also had a love for the outdoors, whether it was fishing in Canada or gardening at his home. While with friends, he was often found playing cards or Twist 21, a game he introduced to many people. In 1973, Jesse married his wife of 36 years, Mary H. (Hains) Sherer, who survives. He will also be deeply missed by his children, Catherine (Jeff) Leonard of East Sparta, James “Chris” (Maude) Sherer of Stone Creek, Kim Sherer of Stone Creek, Scott (fiancé, Tina Matheny) Sherer of Stone Creek, Pamela Sherer of Scottsburg, Indiana, Patricia “Trish” Ady of Dover, and Annette (Bob) Kerns of Parrall.His family also includes his grandchildren, Tammy (Bo) Tinlin, Heather (Jim) Maloon, Shauna Hostetler, Nathaniel Sherer, Luke (fiancé Stephanie Barone) Sherer, Amber Brown, Erica Brown, Elizabeth Brown, Lindsey Matheny, Kimber Kinnen, Dakotah Ady, Jessica Carr, and Lauren; great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jesse, Jett, Jayna, Jaret, Jackson, Hailey, Abigale, Hannah, Winton, Austin, McLaren, Tristen, Sarah and Taren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins complete the family.In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his two sisters, Betty Wigfield and Mary Ellwood.Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Jesse’s life will immediately follow visitation at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Peggy Garner officiating.
