Jerry Lee Edie Sr., 73, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, November 06, 2015 at the home of his son following a lengthy illness.
A son of Loretta Mae Kopp of Dover and the late Harold Eugene Edie Sr., Jerry was born October 31, 1942 at Dover, Ohio.
Jerry graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1962. He then enlisted with the United States Air Force on June 12, 1962 and honorably served his country until his discharge on June 10, 1966.
He was an avid bowler and fisherman and also enjoyed driving his new red Ford Mustang. Jerry loved computers, attending garage sales, the family recipe of pineapple refrigerator cake and served as a foster parent. He cherished his family and had a strong love for his only child, Jerry Jr. Jerry also had a wonderful relationship with his parents and enjoyed visiting his mother in the nursing home. He also had a special relationship with his dogs, Termite and Lucky and his bird, Grady.
He is survived by his mother, Loretta; his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Edie Jr. and Gail of New Philadelphia; four sisters, Marsha (Ronald Jones) Edie of Canton, Linda (Steve) Domer of Dover, Tina Coleman of New Philadelphia and Tara (John) Aguiar of Canton; three brothers, Harold Edie Jr. of Coshocton, Sam (Daisy) Edie of Dennison and Donald Edie of Arizona and his first wife, Audry Edie of Massillon.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Jimmy Edie.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia, where a Christian Wake Service will begin at 7:45p.m. A funeral service celebrating Jerry’s life will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2015 at 10:30 in the funeral home with Father Jeff Coning officiating. Inurnment with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery at Dennison.
