Jerry L. Schupp, 64, of New Philadelphia, died March 2, 2011 in his home from a sudden health-related issue.A son of the late Ellsworth J. and Shirley O. (Bates) Schupp, Jerry was born October 11, 1946 at Dover, O.He was a 1964 graduate of Tuscarawas-Warwick High School then continued his education at Kent State University in Kent, O.He returned home from school to work alongside his brother on his family farm throughout his lifetime.A loving and devoted brother, companion, friend, and uncle, Jerry will long be remembered for his acts of kindness. He was a friend to everyone and greatly enjoyed being with his family whether he was cheering for his nieces and nephews at an athletic event or hiding Easter eggs and playing baseball with them. His lifelong passion for baseball was publicly recognized when he was inducted into the Cy Young Old Timers Hall of Fame.He is survived by his loving companion and best friend, Patty Keener of Dover; sisters, Edna (Allen) Clark of California and Vera (Homer) Roahrig of Plainfield; brother, James Schupp of New Philadelphia; sister-in-law, Shirley J. Schupp of New Philadelphia; numerous nieces and nephews; Patty’s parents, Arthur and Doris J. Keener of Dover; Patty’s brother and sisters, Mark (Lynn) Keener, Jan (fiance, Ernie Kleski) Porter, Paula Wolfe, and Pam (Jeff) Keller, all of Dover; the neighbor boys who were like the three sons he never had, Eric Kinsey, Matt Demattio, and Johnny McKean; and all of his friends in Sharon Valley.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Jerry’s life will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Sharon Moravian Church. Burial will immediately follow the service in Sharon Moravian Cemetery. Friends are invited to the church fellowship hall following the committal service where a meal will be shared. Memorial contribution in Jerry’s memory may be directed to the Indian Valley F.F.A Alumni Association, C/O any First National Bank or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
