Jerry Lee Dummermuth, Sr., 80, of New Philadelphia, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 2, 2015 following a period of declining health.
Born in New Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Simon Elsworth and Mildred Ann (Thomas) Dummermuth.
Jerry was a Korean War veteran, having served on the front line as a medic. Upon returning home, he began his 42-year employment with Gradall, where he served in a variety of capacities, ultimately retiring as a mechanic. Throughout the years, he was a mink rancher, also.
On May 29, 1955, Jerry married his lifelong companion and friend, the late Marjorie Kathryn “Peg” Dummermuth, with whom he celebrated 48 years of marriage prior to her passing on December 1, 2003.
Jerry had a servant-heart. Whether someone needed a ride, something fixed, an ear to listen, Jerry was reliable, available, and willing to help in any way. He greatly enjoyed his family and friends gathering for cook-outs and family get-togethers. He also loved to attend southern gospel concerts and listen to the Sunday evening concerts at Tuscora Park.
His faith was nurtured at the First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia where he was a long-time member.
He will be deeply missed by his children, Jerry L. (Debbie) Dummermuth Jr. of Dover, Jim D. (Sherry) Dummermuth and Doug A. Dummermuth, both of New Philadelphia; a daughter, Kelly J. (Mat) Armstrong of Dover; eight grandchildren, Andy (Katie) Dummermuth of Columbus, Eric, Kyle and Sara Dummermuth of Dover; Chase Dummermuth of Orlando and Jeremy (Mackenzie) Armstrong of Louisiana, Katie and Emily Armstrong of Dover; two foster grandchildren, Jeff Hess and Joyce McCombs; his siblings, Sally (Ted) Lahmers of New Philadelphia, Robert (BJ) Dummermuth of Stone Creek, and Linda (Hershel) Patrick of Ashland; his sister-in-law, Jane Dummermuth of Tuscarawas; and many dear friends and family, including a special friend, Harriett.
His wife, Marjorie Kathryn “Peg” Dummermuth, his parents, his daughter-in-law, Crystal Dummermuth, and his brother, Albert, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 7 at 11:00 AM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia. Burial will be at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 6 from 4 to 8 PM and one hour prior to the service Thursday, in the funeral home.
A meal will be shared following the committal service at the New Philadelphia Church of the Nazarene.
Jerry’s family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Community Hospice and Union Hospital for their excellent care and attention to Jerry and their family.
Memorial contributions in Jerry’s memory may be directed to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
