Jerry J. Edie, 67, of Midvale, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 15, 2003, leaving behind family and friends who love him dearly.Born in Barnhill on July 14, 1935, Jerry was the son of the late Byron and Mary Burgett Edie. Jerry graduated in l953 from Midvale High School where he was a member of the varsity basketball and football teams, and he served in Korea with the United States Army from 1957 to l959 as a private first class.He retired from Associated Grocers in Dennison in 1984 as a member of Teamsters Local #92, and was the proprietor of the Blue Goose Tavern in Barnhill from 1977 to 1994.An avid sports enthusiast, Jerry coached Uhrichsville Little League, enjoyed golfing, and often traveled to Canada on fishing trips. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Janet Edie of Bolivar; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Bill Bitticker of Dover and Ginger and Ray Hoffman of Dennison; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Judy Edie of Vacaville, CA and John and Jeanna Edie of Zoarville; and many loving nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his sister, Mindy Boffo, and brother, Dean.Friends may call at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home on Thursday, June 19, 2003, from 7 to 9 PM. Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, June 20, 2003, at 11 AM by Pastor Larry Wonderley at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia with military rites presented by New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445. The family requests that memorial contributions to honor Jerry be made to the American Lung Association, 1300 Christmas Seal Drive NW, Canton, OH, 44709.
