Jerry E. Torgler

Jerry E. Torgler, age 79, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday evening, October 27, 2015, in Mercy Medical Center at Canton, following a brief illness.

A son of the late Emil Eugene “Gene” and Violet C. Lahmers Torgler, Jerry was born at Union Hospital at Dover on October 10, 1936.

Following his graduation from New Philadelphia High School in 1954, Jerry entered the U.S. Navy Reserves. He held numerous positions with local firms prior to joining the teaching staff at Buckeye Career Center; where he taught Senior Drafting and CAD classes for 20 years. He also obtained an Associate Degree from Kent State University during that time and operated his own business, Torgler Equipment.

Jerry shared his passion as a car fanatic with his son, J.T. , having worked side by side for many years restoring and rebuilding countless Ford vehicles. He was a member of Roxford United Methodist Church, a life member of the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge BPOE #510 as well as the Performance Ford Association of Canton.

His other hobbies included keeping his lawn well-manicured, remodeling his home, and enjoyed going out to eat with his wife of 50 years, the former JoAnn Bean, whom he married on August 8, 1965.

Jerry will be deeply missed by his wife, his three children, Vicki (Tom) Locker, Jerry E. “J.T.” (companion, April Bailey) Torgler, II all of New Philadelphia, and Jamie (Marcy) Torgler of Florida; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and his special friends, Larry and Arlene Fontana.

The family will greet guests on Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 9-11 AM in the Roxford United Methodist Church where services will begin at 11 AM with Pastor Ron Heasley officiating. Following the service, a time of food and fellowship will be shared. Private inurnment will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park.
