Jerry E. Finley

Gerald “Jerry” Ellis Finley, 63, of Dover, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007 in Union Hospital at Dover.Born July 19, 1943 in Dover, Ohio, he was a son of the late Samuel L. and Nancy L. (Ellis) Finley. After graduating from Dover High School in 1961, Jerry joined the United States Air Force where he honorably served our country until 1965. Following his service in the Air Force, he joined the Dover Police Department where he served his community as a Police Officer for more than 25 years.Jerry bought a 1973 Midnight Blue Chevrolet Camero Z-28, which was his pride and joy throughout his lifetime. He also was an avid Dover Tornados and Ohio State Buckeye football fan. After the New Year rang in, Jerry eagerly anticipated the arrival of NASCAR racing. The Fraternal Order of Police members will miss Jerry as he was a loyal member for many years. He was also a member of the New Philadelphia V.F.W Post #1445, and a life member of the New Philadelphia Amvets Post #1338.Jerry will be greatly missed by his wife, the former Debby S. Watson who he married on August 20, 1988; his twin children, Amy (Chad) Festi and their children, Danelle and Noah, of Dover and Scott (Heather) Finley and their son, Hunter, of Strasburg; his brother, Dave (Pat) Finley of New Philadelphia; his niece, Christa (David) Frantz and their daughter, Meghan, of New Philadelphia; and his aunt, Connie Finley of Dover.His parents and his dear great-nephew, Zachary Frantz, preceded Jerry in death.Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2007, at the Geib Funeral Center in Dover from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. An F.O.P service will immediately follow visitation beginning at 3:00 p.m. Burial of Jerry’s cremated remains is scheduled for Monday, January 29 at 11:00 a.m. in Dover Burial Park. The New Philadelphia V.F.W.
