Jennie D (aveni) Garrett

Jennie D. (Aveni) Garrett, age 96, a lifelong resident of New Philadelphia, passed away in Aultman Hospital at Canton Thursday morning, August 25, 2011 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.Born in New Philadelphia Jennie was the daughter of the late Anthony and Carmella (Mobilia) Aveni. Jennie married her late husband, Cecil O. Garrett, on February 21, 1947 in New Philadelphia. Together, they raised two children and were members of Sacred Heart Church in New Philadelphia. Jennie had a passion for sewing and enjoyed spending time with her family.Jennie will be missed by her loving children; Jeanne (Donald) Postiy of Westerville, O. and Robert Garrett of New Philadelphia, her granddaughters; Lisa (Ed) Muller of Lewis Center, O. and Amy (Sean) Johnson of Westerville, O., and her great-grandchildren; Ryan, Eddie and Braden Muller and Nicholas and Olivia Johnson.In addition to her parents and husband, Jennie was preceded in death by her sisters; Rose Yost and Mary Zamboni, and her brother; Vince Aveni.Jennie’s family is very appreciative of the Pallative Care Unit at Aultman Hospital and Dr. Grossman and his nursing staff for their superior care. A service celebrating Jennie’s life will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, beginning at 11 am with Fr. Jeff Coning officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the funeral service in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.Memorial contributions in Jennie’s memory may be directed to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
