Jeffrey L. “Woody” Landis, age 48, of Dundee, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a brief illness surrounded by his family.A son of Dorothy (Cline) Landis of Dundee and the late Nelson Landis, Woody, as he was known by family and friends, was born in Union Hospital at Dover on February 7, 1962.Woody was a 1980 graduate of Garaway High School and went on to obtain his EMT Certification and become a volunteer fireman with the Dundee Fire Department. He was affiliated with the department for more than twenty-five years.Jeff loved the Lord and through his illness learned the importance of salvation and wanted to convey to all his family and friends: “The most important thing in life is your salvation and to live for the Lord.” Jeff carried this on this keychain as a reminder of constant devotion to Christ: “Dear Lord Jesus, I realize I am a sinner, I repent my sins and right this moment I receive You as my Lord and Savior, Amen.” Professionally, Woody owned and operated Nellie Transport. He loved his job as an independent bulk milk hauler for Broad Run Dairy and ran his early morning route daily until his health would no longer allow him to do so.Woody enjoyed coaching little league baseball, golfing, league bowling, mud bogging in his Chevy Silverado, and being a member of the Dundee Bow Hunters Club.Additionally, Woody enjoyed trips along the country side where he would often take the opportunity to enjoy the wildlife and track the growth of the deer in certain areas. He also liked collecting coins, memorabilia from The Ohio State University, and collecting the annual Budweiser Christmas Steins.From a young age, Woody loved to be gathered around his friends and family and always anticipated family parties and cookouts. He also loved a good game of cards with his friends.In addition to his mother, Woody is survived by a son, Bryce Landis of Dundee, a step-son, Dale Lendon (companion, Christina Chism) of Dundee; a brother, Tim (Lisa) Landis of Georgia; a grandson, Jackson Lendon; his best friend and mother of his son, Bryce, Theresa Landis of Dundee; a sister in law, Laurie Landis of Dundee, and a special family friend, Chelsea Buckley Creager of Dover.Three nieces, Briana and Angelina Landis and Brett Berger; a nephew, Anthony Landis, as well as four aunts, Carol Gerber of Dover, Mrs. Bill (Rita) Foster of New Philadelphia, Doreen Johns of Dover, and Lois Cline of Asterburg, Pennsylvania; two uncles, Ronald (Barb) Cline of Spearfish, South Dakota, and Jack Ripley of Gnadenhutten and numerous cousins complete the family.In addition to his father, Woody was preceded in death by a brother, Brian Landis, his maternal grandparents, Howard Cline and Charles and Mary Cline-Buechele; his paternal grandparents, Omer and Lucille Landis; six uncles, and two aunts.The family will receive friends on Friday, April 9, 2010, from 5:00 â?? 8:00 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Woody’s friends and colleagues of the Dundee Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Fireman’s Service at 7:45 PM on Friday. Pastor Dixie Hendricks will lead a service celebrating Woody’s life in the Dover Funeral Center on Saturday, April 10, 2010, at 1:30 PM. Burial will follow in the Dundee Cemetery.Following services a meal and fellowship will be held in the Dundee United Methodist Church.Those unable to attend may send the family personal condolences by signing the online guest registry located on the funeral home’s website.The family requests that memorial contributions in Woody’s name be directed to the Dundee Volunteer Fire Department PO BOX 239 Dundee, Ohio 44624.”I will plant them and not pluck them up.
