Jeannette Curtis, 86, of New Philadelphia, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 30, 2016 in Affinity Hospital at Massillon.
A daughter of the late Cyrus Wendell and Verna Flora (Renfrow) Sharp, Jeannette was born April 16, 1930 in Narrows, Kentucky.
Jeannette graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College with a bachelor’s degree in education. She taught kindergarten and elementary levels in public schools for 33 years. She then volunteered for 4 years with the Red Bird Mission.
Jeannette was an active member of the Broadway United Methodist Church for many years. She once served as the church’s treasurer and would help with bereavement meals. She was a member of the Gideons and she also served on the board of elections.
On September 4, 1951, Jeannette married the love of her life, Allie B. Curtis, and together the couple raised two sons, Dwaine and Wendell.
She is survived by her sons, Dwaine (Kim) Curtis of Lancaster and Wendell Curtis of New Philadelphia, Ohio; her grandchildren, Alex Curtis, Sara (Trinity Cunningham) McGinnis, Gary (Jessica) Curtis, Audra (Aaron) Carpenter, Jennifer (Casey) Stein, Matt (Kari) Curtis and Trevor Curtis; 15 great grandchildren and her sister, Nikki Armstrong.
In addition to her parents, Jeannette is preceded in death by 8 siblings.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 3, 2016 from 6 to 8 pm in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Jeannette’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 1pm in the Broadway United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia with Pastor Mick Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the committal service a luncheon will be held in the fellowship hall of the church.
