July 4, 1927 — January 3, 2011

Jeanette Cannon, age 83, of Sherrodsville, and formerly of Canton, died Monday morning, January 3, 2011, in Union Hospital at Dover. Born on the Fourth of July, 1927, at Buffalo, Guernsey County, Ohio, she was the only child of the late John Reed Paisley and Florence Myrtle Ghrist Paisley. As the daughter of a railroader, she grew up living in places small and large throughout southeast Ohio. On January 18, 1944, she wed John Ellis Cannon in West Virginia â??and the couple would have celebrated their sixty-seventh wedding anniversary later this month. As newlyweds, they traveled west to California where Jeanette, like many of her time, took to factory work as a Rosie the Riveter in support of the war effort. For more than forty years, Canton was home for Jeanette and John â?? and it was there that they raised their only daughter, Becky (husband, John) Saylor who now resides at Sherrodsville. A homemaker for most of her life, Jeanette will be remembered as a fun loving wife, mother and grandma. Known by her whole family as “Nana” â?? she enjoyed having a good time, and making those around her feel loved and cared for in a special way. Travelers for most of their lives, favorite vacation spots included the beaches of Florida, and Williamsburg, Virginia, but her favorite destination was the Outer Banks of North Carolina â?? where family outings were traditions for several years. In addition to her husband and daughter who reside at Sherrodsville, her family includes four grandchildren; Jason (Gabrielle) Cannon of Dover, Cody (Danielle) Fiddler of Carrollton, Katie (Chris) Chappell of Sherrodsville, and Amy Fiddler, also of Sherrodsville. She’ll be sadly missed by her great-grandchildren; McKenna and Jacob Cannon, Meckenna Ashley, Wyatt Fiddler, and the much anticipated Isabella Chappell â?? due to be born within a few months. Friends are invited to call Friday afternoon from 4-6PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Pastor Doug Neavin will lead Jeanette’s funeral service in the chapel at 6PM Friday evening. A reception will follow in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home following the service. Private interment is planned in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
