Jean Shaffer, 76, of New Philadelphia, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, July 22, 2003, at Union Hospital, Dover. She was born in New Philadelphia on June 20, 1927, a daughter of the late Michael and Margaret Ronan Endres. Jean graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1945. She is survived by her husband, Howard L. Shaffer, who she married June 21, 1947. The couple raised four children, daughter Joyce Ann Shaffer of New Philadelphia, sons Greg (Linda) Shaffer of New Philadelphia, Steve Shaffer of Columbus and Doug (Pim) Shaffer of Glendale, AZ; and her grandson, Greg (Jean) Shaffer of Phoenix, AZ. Jean is also survived by three sisters, Mary Lou Thomas and Rita Neiger, both of New Philadelphia, and Betty Lutz of Illinois; and her special niece, Barbara Korns of New Philadelphia.In addition to her parents, Jean and Howard’s first-born child, son Michael, and Jean’s four sisters preceded her in death.Jean was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart Church. She enjoyed dancing as well as working in her flower garden. She liked keeping in touch with family and friends through writing letters. Along with Howard, Jean was a familiar face during their morning walks through their neighborhood.There will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to gather with the family for graveside services at Calvary Cemetery, New Philadelphia on Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 11:00 AM with her nephew, Fr.
