Jean Mary Boland, age 85, of Park Village Retirement Community at Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia, died early Saturday, July 25, 2009.Born on April 13, 1924, at London, England, Jean was a daughter to the late Arthur and Minnie (Phipps) Ivory.As a young woman in London during World War II, Jean met an American Soldier by the name of Harold and the two took an instant liking to one another. Following a period of courtship, the couple wed on September 30, 1945, and Jean soon immigrated to the United States crossing the Atlantic aboard the Queen Mary to join her husband.As a devoted wife and mother, Jean spent the majority of her time tending to duties around her home and caring for her family. In her later years she would cherish the time she had spent with them, but would recall one trip in particular when, as a family, they would travel to her homeland of England to meet up with other family members and learn about her native culture.For many years Jean was a member of the Schoenbrunn Community Moravian Church at New Philadelphia and also enjoyed being an active part of the Tuscarawas County Senior Center. Jean also loved to knit, work on craft projects, and work through difficult jigsaw puzzles.Jean leaves behind a loving family that includes three sons, Maurice (wife Jennifer) Boland of Westerville, Ohio, John Boland of Chelsea, Quebec, Canada, and William (wife Lori) Boland of Dover. Four grandchildren, Benjamin Boland of New York, New York, Emily (husband Eric) Schirtzinger of Columbus, Ohio, Lisa (husband Eric) Kovach of Stow, Ohio, and Rhiannon (husband Landon) Wallick of Dover, as well as two great-grandchildren Taylor Jo Schirtzinger and Ryan Kovach complete the family.In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away just days after the couple celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary, and a brother, Ronald Ivory.The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Sue Koenig, will lead a service celebrating Jean’s life at 7:00 PM.Cremation will follow the service, with a private family inurnment at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
