Jean M. DeGarmo, 76, of New Philadelphia, Ohio and formerly of Canton, Ohio, died Wednesday, November 14, 2007 in her home.Jean was born at Canton, Ohio on May 19, 1931, and was the youngest daughter of the late Angelo and Antoinetta (Pensado) Pentella.On August 10, 1956, Jean married William H. “Bill” DeGarmo of the home who survives.Jean was baptized and received the Sacraments at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at Canton, Ohio. She graduated in 1949 from Canton McKinley High School and was a life long Bulldogs fan. She was retired from the City of Canton, having worked as an executive assistant in the Traffic Engineer’s office and also for the Canton Fire Department Chief. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Nanette DeGarmo Von Allman and son-in-law, Jerry Von Allman and her beloved grandsons, Glenn Von Allman and Nicholas Von Allman all of New Philadelphia.Jean is also survived by her dear sisters, Gloria L. Nemeth of Canton, Ohio and Rachael A. Ferrara of Alpharetta, Georgia; niece, Pamela (David) Feathingham of Alpharetta, Georgia, nephew, Dr. Joseph L. Nemeth III and his companion Fran Schaller of Canton, Ohio; Joseph’s children, Jason (Dr. Nicki) Nemeth of Cincinnati, Ohio and Jessica Nemeth of Akron, Ohio; nephew, Mark Pentella and his children, Kyle, David, and Conor Pentella of Fairlawn; great-niece, Kelly Oster Wooten and her sons, Jakob and Adam Wooten; great-nephew, Scott (Maria) Oster and their children, Madeline and Mackenzie all of Alpharetta, Georgia and brothers-in-law, Paul (Norma) DeGarmo of Canton, Ohio and Danny DeGarmo of Winter Haven, Florida.Jean will be fondly missed by her son-in-law’s family, Arvada and Robert Everhart, Cheryl, Chris, Lindsay and Christopher Delacruz and Jennifer (Paul) Fritchman; her life long friends, Thomas and Jean Ascani, Ralph and Delores Peterson, Bill and Margie Kulic and numerous other nieces, nephews and friends.In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Paul and Anne Burke DeGarmo; her brother, Sabatino Armondo Pentella; brothers-in-law, Francis Xavier Ferrara, Joseph L. Nemeth, Jr., Jack DeGarmo and William Schmidt; sisters-in-law, Virginia Pentella and Betty Schmidt and an infant niece, Lori Ann Pentella.In keeping with Jean’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services and cremation will take place under the care of the Linn-Hert Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
