Jean Hites, 80, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully on Saturday, January 21, 2012 in Hennis Care & Retirement Centre at Dover following a period of declining health.A daughter of the late Noah and Maude (Murphy) Canfield, Jean was born October 12, 1931 at Fairmont, West Virginia.Jean attended New Philadelphia Schools and later worked as a waitress at the former Reeves Hotel and then was employed at Warner & Swasey. She then retired from the Clark County School District in Nevada where she worked as a secretary for 15 years.She was a member of Community Baptist Church at Dover as well as a member of the National Education Association. Jean was an avid card player and enjoyed being in the company of her family.Surviving are her children, Linda (Chris) Kilchenman of New Philadelphia and Richard Hites and Chad (Ariana) Hites both of Las Vegas, Nevada; seven grandchildren, Jim (Michelle) Kilchenman of Xenia, Ohio, Andrew Kilchenman of Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Richelle, Tyler, Aubrion and Saylor Hites and Travis (Amber) Reed all of Las Vegas, Nevada; two great grandchildren; a sister, Neva Rees of Marietta, Ohio and three brothers, Ed (Dolly) Canfield and Ted (Kathi) Canfield both of New Philadelphia and James (Darlene) Canfield of Newcomerstown.Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Graham Hites who passed away in 1996; three sisters, Freda Tatterson, Iona Behmn and an infant sister; four brothers, Lloyd, Noah Jr., Jessie and Ray Canfield and a daughter-in-law, Paula Hites The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Jean’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Max Canfield and Pastor Andrew McClung officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover.
