Jean Elizabeth Sherer

April 6, 1926 — January 13, 2012

Jean Elizabeth Sherer, age 85, of Hennis Care Center at Dover, and formerly of Tuscarawas, went to be with her Lord Friday evening, January 13, 2012 following a long illness.Born at Canton, April 6, 1926, she was a daughter of the late William “Dewey” and Cecelia Manly Hewson. Jean was a 1946 graduate of Canton Timken High School. Jean went to work at the former Associated Grocers where she met and fell in love with Robert J. Sherer. The couple wed January 4, 1948. Jean ultimately left her work as head cashier of Stolls Markets where she had worked for its predecessor Maurer Markets of Uhrichsville. She’ll be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, who tended to her beautiful flower gardens, raised and sold pumpkins, took kindly to pets, and loved to cook and bake. Jean was a longtime member of Sharon Moravian Church. Survivors include her four children; Susan and her husband Gary Rambaud of Sandyville, Jennifer and her husband Bryan Lehigh of Gnadenhutten, Steve and his wife Linda Sherer of New Philadelphia, and Dave and his wife Arlene Sherer of Hilliard, Ohio. She’ll be sadly missed by her eight grandchildren; Kimberly Rambaud of Canton, Kyle, Mitchell and Hannah Lehigh of Gnadenhutten, Stephanie and her husband Doug Miles of Uhrichsville, Ryan and his wife Danielle Sherer of New Philadelphia, Adrianne and her husband Keith Stuiber of Delaware, and Tasha Sherer of Columbus, and two step-grandchildren; Rich Norman of Tucson, Arizona and Michelle Giffen of Gnadenhutten. Thirteen great-grandchildren also survive. A brother, Oland Hewson of Canton completes the family. In addition to her parents, Jean is preceded in death by her husband Robert, who passed away in 1981. Friends are invited to call Monday afternoon from 4-7 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Darrell Johnson will officiate Mrs. Sherer’s funeral service Tuesday morning at 10:30 in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial, alongside her husband, will follow in Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery. Those unable to attend are invited to share memories and condolences with the family by visiting the funeral home’s website.
