Janice Eileen Urfer, age 76 of New Philadelphia, died peacefully in her residence, surrounded by her family, on Friday, October 10, 2014.
Born in the family home at Wainwright on August 17, 1938, Janice was a daughter of the late Dennis and Mary (Reichman)McCahill.
Janice was a graduate of the former Tuscarawas High School and on August, 9, 1964 she married the love of her life, Dennis Urfer, and together the couple raised two daughters.
Caring for her family was Janice’s first priority and she was beloved by her excellent cooking and baking skills. As her family grew, she made it a point to attend the school and sporting events of her grandchildren. She enjoyed many hobbies that included swimming at the YMCA, water skiing, camping, bowling, playing tennis, participating in the Gradall Corporate Challenge, sewing, crocheting, and cross stitching. She loved craft work and was an excellent seamstress who enjoyed making dresses for her daughters and many others.
Janice had a great love for music and could often be found listening to her favorite artists, Elvis Presley, Patsy Cline, Engelbert Humperdinck, and the Drifters, to name a few. She also had a lifelong love for the Cleveland Browns.
She is survived by her husband, of 50 years, Dennis; daughters, Shari Morrison of Sugarcreek and Holly Meese of New Philadelphia ; her three grandchildren, Javen Troyer, Cody Meese and Taylor Rose Meese and her beloved Schnauzer, Maggie.
Completing the family are her siblings, Ronnie (Marty) McCahill of Dover, Dennis McCahill of New Philadelphia, Shirley Sinkovich of Baltic, Ann (Robert) Craig of Dennison, Harold (Mary) McCahill of New Philadelphia and Barb (Roy) Schilling of Ragersville and Karen (Dave) Green of Midvale and as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Ridgeway and a brother, Charles McCahill.
The family will receive guests on Monday, October 13, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Janice’s life will be led by Pastor Rebecca Sisley in the Sharon Moravian Church on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 10:30 AM. Burial in the Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery will follow. Following services, all are invited to join the family for a time of food and fellowship in the church social hall.
