Janet Stephenson nee Bruckmann, 80, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2007, in Union Hospital at Dover.A daughter of the late Ernst and Emma Kahle Bruckmann, Janet was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. While attending Hughes High School in Cincinnati, she met the love of her life, James Stephenson. After graduation from Hughes High in 1945, Janet attended The Ohio State University, where she was a member of Alpha Phi. When James was drafted into the Army, they married on March 16, 1946. After James’ discharge from the Army, they resided in Cincinnati where Janet and James attended the University of Cincinnati. James graduated with a law degree, and the couple moved to New Philadelphia in 1951, where James entered his father’s law practice, later joined by brother, Richard Stephenson and nephew Robert Stephenson and niece Elizabeth Stephenson.Janet was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she was involved in the Vestry and Alter Guild for life. She also helped deliver Meals on Wheels and was a member of the social club, “The Hill Ladies.” She enjoyed watching the wildlife and spending time with her children and grandchildren.In addition to her parents and husband, Janet was preceded in death by daughter, Nancy Emalee Stephenson, and niece Donna Stephenson Berndt.She is survived by her three daughters, Dr. Jane Stephenson of Plantsville, Connecticut, Margaret Reda of Burton, Ohio, and Laura Sherrets of Centerville, Ohio; grandchildren, Erin Sherrets, and Kyle Sherrets; sisters, Erma Bruckmann of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Dorlene Zust of Cincinnati, Ohio; brother-in-law, Richard (Virginia) Stephenson of New Philadelphia; nieces and nephews, Ann (Eric Kimple) Stephenson of Fremont, Ohio, Robert (Sally) Stephenson of New Philadelphia, Carol (Craig) Bullock of Park City, Utah, Elizabeth (Paul McEwan) Stephenson of New Philadelphia, Alan (Amy) Zust of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Emily (Randy) Hitch of Fort Mitchell, Kentucky; dear friend Annie Giles of New Philadelphia; and beloved kitty, Augie.Friends are invited to call Sunday, April 22, 2007, from 1-4 p.m. in the Linn-Hert Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 23, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. in the Linn-Hert Geib Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park.
