Janet Owen, 71 of Strasburg, passed away into God’s graces after a brief period of declining health on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at Community Hospice in New Philadelphia.
A daughter to the late Otha and Louise Grissom, Jan was born in Searcy, Arkansas on August 26, 1950. She spent her youth in Pittsburg, California. At the age of 19 she met her husband Larry at the Enlisted Men’s Club in Oakland California. They were married for 51 years.
Jan was generous of her time and kindness and spent many years volunteering with Dover City Schools, with the National Alliance on Mental Illness and as a faithful member of her church, the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in North New Philadelphia.
Her creative talents were most evident in the many hobbies she loved in her life including weaving, creating glass mosaic art, antique restoration, and cooking. For Jan, spring was for gardening and winter was for bird watching. Time with her friends was enjoyed playing euchre in her card club, selling tickets at basketball and football games and playing bocce.
Jan is survived by her loving husband, Larry Owen of Strasburg, daughters Heather (Logan) Randles of Granville and Lauren Owen of Strasburg, brother Ken Grissom of Uhrichsville, and grandchildren Evyn and Kai Randles of Granville.
Private remembrance services will take place at a later date. Jan’s ashes will be inurned at Dover Burial Park in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions in Jan’s name may be directed to two organizations that were very special to Jan. Community Mental Healthcare, Crisis Intervention, 201 Hospital Dr, Dover, OH 44622 and North-New Philadelphia Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1212 Kelly St NW, New Philadelphia, OH 4466
