Jane M. Engelhart

Jane Marie Engelhart, 85, a life-long resident of New Philadelphia, died at the Alterra Clare Bridge Cottage early Wednesday morning, November 5, 2003 after her struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Jane was born March 8, 1918 to the late Ivan W. and Edna L. Knecht Stocksdale. Her father will be remembered for his artistic skill in his painting the interior dome of the Tuscarawas County courthouse. He also painted the ceiling of the former Emmanuel Lutheran Church before it’s tragic fire. She graduated from New Philadelphia High School and Mercy Medical Hospital school of nursing. For many years she served her community as a registered nurse with the New Philadelphia Health Department and New Philadelphia school district. Jane will also be remembered for her caring work with Dr. Pinelli and Dr. Hudson. She loved each and every patient as they loved her. After her retirement she continued caring for people as medical coordinator for Valley Manor Nursing Home. Jane’s dedication and love of her profession carried over after retiring by volunteering her time and talent with the Community Blood Mobile.A life-long member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Jane was also a 50-plus year member of New Philadelphia Chapter No. 222, Order of the Eastern Star, an organization much loved by her mother as well.Jane is survived by her husband, Edward of Country Club Retirement Center, whom she married May 31, 1943; sons, David (Janet) Engelhart of Dover and Mike Engelhart of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Ivajane (Dan) Miles of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Todd (Michelle) Miles of New Philadelphia and Trisha (Kip) Eriksen of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Jace Miles; Miles Arthur and Lucas Jeffrey Eriksen; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Stocksdale of New Philadelphia; and her brother, Walter (Clara) Stocksdale of New Philadelphia, who was a constant source of love and support. Besides her parents, her grandson, Chad David Engelhart, and her brother, Russell Stocksdale, preceded Jane in death.Friends may call at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home on Friday, November 7, 2003 from 1:45 PM until the Church Council service begins at 2:30 PM, immediately followed by the memorial service. Her pastor, Rev. Michael E. Walters, will officiate. After the chapel service a reception will be held in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home. Cremation will be conducted at Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory in New Philadelphia.Contributions in Jane’s memory may be made to the Pastor’s Emergency Fund at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 202 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
