James W. Allison, 82, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2015 in New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover.
Jim was born January 16, 1933 in Dover, Ohio to the late Albert P. Allison Sr. and the late Irene M. (Connor) Allison.
Jim retired in 1994 after operating the Allison Insurance Agency, Inc., along with his deceased wife, Judy, for 21 years.
After retirement, Jim and Judy traveled all over the United States and Canada in their RV, spending winters in Arizona where his parents and Al Jr. resided. He continued to travel with his present wife, Patricia, whom he married in September 2002, spending winters in Florida with her.
He was a member of the First United Church of Christ at New Philadelphia where he served as a Deacon, Treasurer and Elder. He was also a member of the New Philadelphia Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, Tadmore Shrine, Dover American Legion, New Philadelphia Elks Lodge 510, a life member of New Philadelphia Kiwanis where he served as Treasurer and President and a life member of the Good Sam Club. He was also a past member of the board of directors of the Dover Salvation Army and the United Way Day Care Center.
Jim served two years in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany where Judy joined him for a year. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal in 1955.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Lorenz Kugler Allison; his daughter, Cindi (companion, Pedro West) Uebel of New Philadelphia; his sons, Greg (Becky) Allison of Dover and Jeff (Candy) Allison of Millersburg; sister-in-law, Sara (Les) Ley of Dover; a brother-in-law, David (Sue) Harris, of Dover and a step son, Randy (Carlene) Kugler of Philomath, Oregon. Jim also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, four step grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Judy, who passed away in 2000; his father, Albert Sr. in 1984; his mother, Irene in 2006 and his brother, Al Jr. in 2012.
Jim enjoyed life, his family, friends and neighbors and meeting people during his travels across the country. He had a happy life, enjoyed it and lived it to the fullest. He always wanted to leave this earth with a smile on his face.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Jim’s life will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Reverends Jeffrey Gerber and Jill Lovett officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
