James Vincent Rotondo

James Vincent Rotondo Sr., age 83, of New Philadelphia died peacefully, on Saturday, August 25, 2012 in his home with his family at his side.

A son of the late Victor J. and Mary (DeChiera) Rotondo, Jim was born on August 1, 1929 at Dover, Ohio.

He attended St. Mary’s School at Dennison and entered into the United States Navy on November 19, 1946. He served as an machinist mate fireman aboard the USS Larson and was honorably discharged on February 7, 1950.

Upon his return to the Tuscarawas Valley, Jim began working for the Timken Roller Bearing Company at New Philadelphia where he spent more than 37 years as a Tool Grinder for the firm.

He was a member of the New Philadelphia and Dover Moose and Eagles clubs as well as a member of the New Philadelphia and Dover VFW Posts. For a number of years Jim also bowled on the Moose Bowling League.

Jim had many great joys during his lifetime that involved being with his family and was especially proud of being able to attend and support his grandchildren in their sporting and extra-curricular activities. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, golfing, working in his vegetable garden and canning. He also loved teaching his family how to cook and looked forward to watching classic Western movies.

He is survived by his wife, the former Deidre “Dee” Miller whom he married on October 7, 1984; their seven children, Kenny Rotondo of Dover, Delaware, Vic Rotondo and his partner, Jim (Brenda) Rotondo, Michelle (Mark) Richardson all of New Philadelphia, Shawn (Mark) Tidrick of Dennison, Shelly (Tom) Burkhart of Dover and Scott (Amber) Byers of New Philadelphia; a sister, Ann Graham of New Philadelphia and a brother, Frank Rotondo of Dennison.

Seventeen grandchildren, Brittany (Russell Greene) Rotondo, Lacey (Tony Piconke) Rotondo, Cory DeChiara, Chelsea DeChiara, Destinee DeChiara, Steven Byers, Matt Torgler, Lisa (Todd) Granato, Christopher Rotondo, Mackenzie Byers, Jorden Byers, Samantha Byers, Ashleigh Zirups, Kody Hidey, Tressa Burkhart Peterman, Thom Burkhart, and Zack (Lauren) Burkhart; eight great-grandchildren, Vinnie Granato, Cadence Greene, Kiana Byers, Kyra Torgler, Tristan Peterman, Davin Peterman, Val Peterman, and Hallie Abel, as well as numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Rotondo; a sister, Theresa Rotondo; two sisters-in-law, “Pete” Androsky, and Audrey Rotondo; his grandson, Ryan Peterman; a brother-in-law, Pat Graham and his mother and father-in-law, Walt and Peg Miller.

In keeping with Jim’ wishes, cremation care has taken place through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover. A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Scot Caly and Deacon Lynn Houze will lead a celebration of Jim’ life beginning at 7 p.m. in the funeral home’s chapel. Following the service, members of the Carl C. Stoller Post 1445 of the New Philadelphia VFW will render military honors.

Private inurnment will take place in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover.
