James “Jim” Rudolph Trachsel, 88, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, January 27, 2015 in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Louis and Dona (Persinger) Trachsel, Jim was born May 1, 1926 at Akron, Ohio.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Jim served during World War II aboard five different ships in the American, Pacific and Asiatic Theatres. He then received his honorable discharge on June 20, 1946.
On March 30, 1947, Jim married the love of his life, the former, Marjorie Bucher, and together they raised three sons, Gerald, Dale and Steven. The couple shared 66 years of marriage prior to Marjorie’s passing on February 28, 2014.
Jim served the City of New Philadelphia as a Firefighter for 25 years and retired in 1979 as Captain. Following his retirement he operated two separate construction companies, J-Mar Builders, Inc. and Jamesway Builders, Inc.
He was a longtime member of Dover Alliance Church and enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. Jim will be remembered for his generous spirit who was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to any family member or friend in need. Most of all he will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son and son-in-law.
He is survived by his sons, Gerald (Sheila) Trachsel of New Philadelphia, Dale (Sandy) Trachsel of Port Washington, and Steven Trachsel of New Philadelphia; seven grandchildren, Duane Trachsel, Christopher Trachsel, Debra Fox, Lori Trachsel, Steven J. Trachsel, Elizabeth Ingram and Aaron Trachsel and 12 great-grandchildren, Paige Trachsel, Taera Trachsel, Landon Fox, Parker Fox, Brady Fox, Briana Ingram, Korena Trachsel, Alex Ingram, Levon Trachsel, Emma Trachsel, Gage Griffith and Karrington Griffith.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters, Lucille Capaldi and Esther Trachsel and two brothers, Dennis and Harold Trachsel.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Jim’s life will follow at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Richard Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover where military honors will be rendered.
