James “Staggs” Allen, Sr.

James A. “Staggs” Allen, Sr., 60 of Newcomerstown, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, Sunday, February 18, 2018 while in the care of Community Hospice’s Truman House at New Philadelphia following a brief illness.

Born at Loma Linda California on July 4, 1957, Jim was a son of the late Arthur Alfred Allen and Alice and Robert L. Staggs, Jr.

At a young age, the family relocated to Ohio and Jim joined the family business as an over the road truck driver for the former Staggs Trucking and even enjoyed a stint as a stay at home dad. He enjoyed any activity that allowed him to be out doors, it didn’t matter if he was working on a car, a home improvement project, camping, or having a bonfire, Jim loved it all. But above all else, Jim loved time spent with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, the former Amy Jo Gibson, whom he married on October 2, 1998; their daughters, Jessica (Ryan) Garcia of Maryland, Victoria (Zac Foster) Finnicum of Uhrichsville, and Melissa (Nathaniel) Hughes and a step-daughter, April Roberts all of New Philadelphia; 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Alice (Ronnie) Green of Sugarcreek, and Bev (David) Woodring; a brother, Robert Staggs, III all of Baltic and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a son, James A. Allen, Jr.

The family will greet guests on Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 4-7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadlephia. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will follow.
