James R. Mangon

James R. “Jim” Mangon, 62, of Canton, formerly of New Philadelphia, died Thursday February 22, 2007, at his residence following a lengthy illness.Jim was born at Dover, on February 22, 1945, to the late William J. and Ruth M. Metcalf Mangon. He spent his formative years in Tuscarawas County and was a 1963 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.He was a United States Air Force veteran having served in Kunsan, Korea and Aviano Italy. Jim was retired as a controller from Hilltop Energy of Mineral City and had formerly been employed by Miller Studio of New Philadelphia.He was an avid golfer but his greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.Jim is survived by his wife Jeannie (Ellwood), whom he married October 25, 1969; son and daughter-in-law, Brett and Elizabeth Mangon, of Green; daughter and son-in-law, Marcie and Todd Haney, of Freeport; sister, Joan (Robert) Wolf, of Gnadenhutten; brothers, Ronald W. (Barbara) Mangon, of New Philadelphia, Larry L. (Susan) Mangon, of Ashland, David A. (Vicki) Mangon, of North Canton; sister-in-law, Pat Smith, of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Isabella R. and Sophia G. Mangon, of Green, and Ethan W. Haney, of Freeport; and a grandson due to be delivered in April; father-in-law, Ronald E. Mahaffey; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.Friends and family are invited to visit at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Sunday, February 25, 2007, from 2 till 5 p.m. during which church council services will be held. A Funeral Service will be in held at the funeral home chapel on Monday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Lee Eilert officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park where the New Philadelphia VFW will provide military honor’s. A reception will follow at the Geib Family Center adjacent to the funeral home.Memorial contributions in Jim’s memory are suggested to the local Veterans Administration
