James R. ”jim” Welch

New Philadelphia resident James R. Welch, 65, died Monday morning, August 22, 2011.A son of Mary “Irene” Barkley Welch of New Philadelphia and the late Robert “Bob” Welch, Jim was born January 4, 1946, in Twin City Hospital at Dennison.Jim graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1964 and Tri State University in Angola, Indiana, in 1969 with a degree in chemical engineering. He retired in 2003 from Arizona Chemical at Dover where he had worked since his college graduation. Since his retirement, he had worked part time at the Wine Rack in New Philadelphia.On September 9, 1967, he married the former Karen Beitzel, who survives. Also surviving, in addition to his mother, is his daughter, Amy Welch of New Philadelphia; his son, John Welch of Uniontown; brothers, Bill and wife Cindy Welch of New Philadelphia and Larry and wife Becky Welch of Nashport, O.; sister-in-law Linda Beitzel of New Philadelphia; aunt, Jeanette Barkley of Uhrichsville; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his two canine buddies, Sadie and Sammie.In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Welch, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Connie and Gerald Beitzel. The family wants to acknowledge Paul Sparano, Stacy Martin, and Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County for their assistance during Jim’s illness.Services will be held Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 10 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory chapel in New Philadelphia with The Rev. Carolyn Behrendt officiating. Inurnment will be held at East Avenue Cemetery in New Philadelphia at a later date.
