James L. “Buddy” Turrin, 64, of Stow, Ohio, and formerly of New Philadelphia, Ohio, died Saturday, July 30, 2005, following a lengthy illness at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio.A son of the late Louis J. and Mildred E. (Wise) Turrin, Jim was born September 2, 1940 in Lawrence Township, Ohio.He was a 1958 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. Jim retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 32 years of service. He also worked at Warner & Swasey in New Philadelphia prior to his employment at Goodyear.Jim was an Amateur Radio Operator whose handle was WA8DCE. He also volunteered his time with the Military Affiliate Radio Systems. Jim was a musician and singer for over 30 years having been the leader of the Harvest Gold Band for 20 years. He was a classic car enthusiast who enjoyed racing the cars he collected.He is survived by his loving wife, Michaelanne “Mickey” (Salak) Turrin, whom he married December 9, 1988 in Stow, Ohio; three children, Patti Jo (Scott) Hahn of New Philadelphia, James L. (Leslie) Turrin, II of Phoenix, Arizona and Steven E. (Stephanie) Turrin of Sugar Land, Texas; grandchildren, Stephani Fields, Joe Hahn, Clayton Hahn, Ben (Bekah) Hahn, James L. Turrin, III, Jon Hunter, Matthew Turrin and Taylor Turrin; one great-grandson, Blake Hahn; and one sister, Rosemary (Robert) Hall of Tuscarawas.Jim was preceded in death by his parents.In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services and cremation will take place at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia.Memorial contributions may be made in James’ name to the American Cancer Society 201-A West Ohio Avenue, Dover, OH 44622.
