James Raymond “Jim” Pfeiffer, age 77, of Port Washington, passed away early Friday morning, April 9, 2010 in Union Hospital at Dover.Born August 7, 1932 in Stone Creek, O., he was the son of the late Raymond and Zora (Hawk) Pfeiffer.After graduating from Stone Creek High School in 1950, Jim honorably served our country in the United States Army in Korea.Upon his return from service, he married his wife, the former Roxie Jane Sauser on September 1, 1955. He then began his professional career at Port Washington and later Indian Valley South, teaching music and English throughout his 30 years in education. Early in his teaching career, he spent the summer months in school at Kent State University, graduating with a bachelors degree in music education in 1962.Jim was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Port Washington where he was the church’s choir director and also sung in various quartets, most notably the Jordan River Boys. Jim and Roxie greatly enjoyed traveling abroad. Jim was a tour director for more than a dozen international tours throughout his lifetime. The Pfeiffers were blessed to have met and traveled with hundreds of people on these tours.Jim was also a loyal fan of the Cleveland Indians and The Ohio State Buckeyes, especially TBDBITL.In addition to his wife, Jim will be deeply missed by his daughter, Kathy (Mark) Huston of Port Washington; his grandchildren, Betsy Huston of Port Washington and Kyle Huston of Columbus, O.; his sister, Virginia (Robert) Wasem of Dover; his sister-in-law, Linda (Fred) Lehman of Newcomerstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.In keeping with Jim’s wishes, cremation will be conducted through the care of Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory. Private inurnment will be conducted in Stone Creek Cemetery at a later date. Jim’s family requests memorial contributions be directed to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, PO Box 36, 114 North High Street, Port Washington, OH 43837-9702 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
