James J. Carlisle

October 12, 1922 — June 21, 2013

James J. Carlisle, 90, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, June 21, 2013 in Schoenbrunn Health Care at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.

A son of the late James C. and Helen (Reymond) Carlisle, Jim was born October 12, 1922 at Goshen, Ohio.

Jim graduated from Midvale High School in 1940. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Company K 71st Infantry Combat Regiment 44th Division during World War II. Jim was stationed in the European Theatre during the war and was a recipient of a Bronze Star Medal.

During his younger years, Jim worked as a coal miner for the former Midvale Coal Mine. He eventually retired from General Electric where he worked as a machinist.

Jim was a member of Community of Christ Church at New Philadelphia. He enjoyed gardening and was avid fisherman with his favorite outings being with his son in Canada.

He is survived by two children, Sandra “Joey” (companion, Jim Kromenacker )Hanchette of Dover and Jim (Deb) Carlisle of New Philadelphia; three grandchildren, Ben (Andrea) Carlisle of Norton, Ohio, Courtney Carlisle of New Philadelphia and Richard E. (Tracey) Hanchette III of Cleveland; two brothers, Joseph (Helen) Carlisle of Atwood Lake and Daniel Carlisle of New Philadelphia; four sisters, June Crites of Gnaden, Wanda (Ed) Golder and Marge (Donald) Levengood both of New Philadelphia and Linda (Bob) Edie of Columbus and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Mae Carlisle who passed away on April 10, 2013; a brother, Thomas Carlisle and two sisters, Dorothy Hibbs and Faye Meese.

There will be no calling hours and a graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday, June 24, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens.
