James David “Jim” Haas, of Dalton, Ohio, formerly of Greentown, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 24, 2017 after a period of declining health. He is no longer in pain and is now resting in the loving arms of Jesus.
A son of the late Alvin Sr. & Catherine (Schumacher) Haas, James was born December 24, 1934 in Dennison, Ohio. He excelled in many sports, including football, baseball, softball, and bowling. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1955-1957. He married the love of his life, Edith “Edie” (Meese) Haas, to whom he was married for 55 years and with whom he will spend eternity. He retired from the F.W. Albrecht Company in Akron where he served 30 years and was a member of the Teamsters Union. He was a long time member of Greentown United Methodist Church and later attended Calvary Chapel in Massillon, Ohio. Jim enjoyed many years of camping and boating with his family and friends at Atwood Lake. He blessed countless people with his gifts of hospitality and cooking. He will be fondly remembered for his limitless generosity, winning personality, hearty laughter, and unconditional love.
He is survived by his loving daughter Beth, the joy of his life, and “The best son-in-law a man could ask for,” Philip Eades; five grandchildren, Sarah (Ryan) Reed, Andrew (Joanne) Eades, John David (Rebecca) Eades, Joellen Eades, and Meredith Eades; two great-granddaughters, Anneke and Belita Eades; One step-great granddaughter, Ava Reed; two expected great-grandchildren, Baby Eades and Baby Reed; siblings, Joan (Frank) DeVore and Eugene (Catherine) Haas; stepdaughter, Sherryl Edwards-Kostolich; his nephew and best friend, Jeff Cady, and many other nieces and nephews; numerous friends and neighbors; and his Boston terriers, Kobe and Molly. He will be forever loved and deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edie; parents; stepson, Gene Tygard; siblings, Pauline (Ray) Hodkinson, Wilma (Morris) Rapport, Betty (Don) Cady, Alvin, Jr. (his wife, Catherine, survives), Thelma (Bob) Armstrong; and half-brothers, Walter Stewart, Don Stewart.
Visitation will be held at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia on Saturday, December 30, 2017 from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM, with a celebration of life service to follow at 10:30 AM with Rev. Joseph Santomen officiating. Jim will be laid to rest at Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to make a donation to their favorite charity in Jim’s name.
