James F. “Jim” Glauser, age 76, of Strasburg, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009, in Affinity Hospital at Massillon, following a lengthy illness.The only son born to the late Edwin F. and Dorothy A. (Waltz) Glauser, Jim was born at New Philadelphia on August 21, 1932.Jim was a 1952 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and soon entered into the United States Navy where he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal for his service during the Korean War.During Labor Day weekend of 1964, Jim met a young lady by the name of Loretta Jones and the pair took an instant liking to one another. Following nearly two years of courtship, Jim and Loretta were married on April 15, 1966, in the Mission Inn at Riverside, California. Following his tenure with the Navy, Jim took on a role in the public service field, and entered into the Palm Springs Police Department in 1959. He was later transferred to the Palm Springs Fire Department in November of 1963 and worked there until relocating back to the Tuscarawas Valley in June of 1971. In April of 1972, Jim settled his family in the Village of Strasburg where he continued his public service career as police officer. For many years, Jim cared for the safety of those who lived at Strasburg and for nearly ten years, served as the village’s Chief of Police prior to his retirement in March of 1997.When not caring for the village’s safety, Jim could be found enjoying one of his many hobbies that included mechanics, electronics, and reading, all of which he used as he worked on his radio controlled air planes. He was a long-time member of the Tusco RC club. Jim also enjoyed target shooting and sharing in the fellowship of his friends as a life-time member of the Tusco Rifle Club.During times of gathering with family and friends, Jim was best known for his ornery sense of humor and his outgoing and playful demeanor that became his trademark.In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by a daughter, Erin (Rich) Siber of North Canton; a son, Jeff Litton of Palm Springs, California; and two grandchildren, Kelsey and Kyle Siber of North Canton.A memorial service for Jim will be led by Reverend Hugh B. Berry on Sunday, April 26, 2009, at 1:30 P.M. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. The family will host a reception to greet guests immediately following the service in the Hospitality Room of the Dover Funeral Center.The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4815 Munson Street NW, Canton, Ohio 44718.
