James R. Glass, 69, of Dover, died Thursday, December 18, 2014 in Union Hospital at Dover following a recent illness.
A son of the late Anthony F. and Dorothy E. (Waldron) Glass, Jim was born May 2, 1945 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.
Jim was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School. He then served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he was wounded in action and ultimately received the Purple Heart award. On October 15, 1976, Jim married the love of his life, the former Karen Lee, and together the couple raised two children, Tony and Ericka.
He dedicated his career to the Glass Lumber Company where he served as the Vice President. He was a member of the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge #510, the AMVETS and Ducks Unlimited.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Glass; his daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Ericka and Dr. Eric Johnson of Canal Fulton; his grandchildren, A.J. and Katelyn and their parents, Mike and Erika Owens; a sister, Barbara Cooper of New Philadelphia; a brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Angela Glass of New Philadelphia and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Tony and a brother-in-law, Bill Cooper.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes there will be no calling hours and cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The family will host a celebration of Jim’s life on Monday, December 22, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the New Philadelphia Elks.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to the Union Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, c/o Lorrie Hawk, 662 PGA Blvd., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
Jim’s family would like to extend their personal gratitude to Dr. Ahmed, Dr. Levitt and the nurses at Union Hospital for their care and compassion during his illness as well as to Pastor Jim Borton of the First Christian Church at New Philadelphia.
