James F. Burkhart, age 61, of Strasburg, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012, in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a brief illness as a result of surgical complications.
A son of Dorothy (Hawk) Burkhart and the late James “Junior” Burkhart, Jim, as he was known to family and friends, was born at Canton, Ohio on October 30, 1950.
A graduate of Tusky Valley High Shool, Jim continued his education at Kent State University. During his high school career, Jim was an athletic individual and was a stand out in football, basketball, and track.
Jim was the former owner and operator of TJM Construction at Zoar and in his free time he enjoyed the fellowship of his friends at the Shadyrest Army-Navy.
In addition to his mother, Jim is survived by a daughter, Sammie (husband, Scott) Schoeppner; a son, Scott Burkhart and three grandchildren, Mickenzie Madison, and Landon.
Completing the family are two brothers, Randy (wife, Susan) Burkhart, and Mark Burkhart; a sister, Sally Dunn and numerous nieces and nephews.
Those who knew Jim best understood his simple outlook on life. In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover. Private burial will take place in the Fort Laurens Cemetery at Bolivar.
