James Ray Edie, 79, of Dover, passed away peacefully in his home under the care of Ohio’s Hospice on October 22, 2024.
Jim was born May 1, 1945 in Dover to the late Howard W. and Marjorie (Miller) Edie. After graduating from New Philadelphia High School in 1963, he continued his formal education at Kent State University where he completed his Bachelor of Education degree.
He later was recognized as 1 of 12 outstanding teachers in Ohio by the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation. The foundation granted him a scholarship that paid for his Master of Education degree at Akron University.
Jim was a 6th grade teacher for New Cumberland, Tusky Valley, Claymont and ultimately received tenure and retired from Canton City Schools. Jim’s community involvement included memberships with the Masonic Lodge and B.P.O.E. #510.
On July 4, 1980, Jim married his life partner, the former JoAnn Seldenright. Together, they shared numerous adventures and too many laughs to count. He also leaves behind his daughter, Suzanne (companion, Robert Ensinger) Edie of Columbus.
Private burial will take place in Evergreen Burial Park beside his parents.
If you would like to make a contribution in Jim’s memory, consider St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization he supported and believed in, or a charity of your choosing.
