James E. Peters

James E. Peters, 81, of Uhrichsville, died Monday, December 21, 2009 in his childhood home surrounded by his family.A son of the late William H. and Beatrice (Conwell) Peters, James was born January 13, 1928 in Dennison, Ohio.He was a 1945 graduate of Uhrichsville High School and then served his country in the United States Navy. In 1947, James went to work for the railroad and retired in 1995 as a locomotive engineer with Conrail.James was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Uhrichsville. He enjoyed golfing, especially at Big Bend Golf Course in Uhrichsville and was an avid gardener.He is survived by his wife Betty (Blake) Peters; a daughter, Patricia Elizabeth Franklin of Maitland, Florida; two sons, James W. Peters and his wife Susan Harmon Peters of Uhrichsville and Jon H. Peters of St. Francisville, Louisiana; a step daughter, Cindy(Craig) Williams of Colerain, Ohio; four grandchildren, James William Peters II of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Haylee (James) Humphries of Jacksonville, Florida and Kristin and Emily Peters both of Uhrichsville; two step granddaughters, Lindsey and Kaitlyn Williams both of Colerain, Ohio; a sister, Wilma Simpson and a brother, William (Eileen) Peters both of Reading, Pennsylvania and many nieces and nephews.James was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Hendricks.In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services and cremation will take place through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory.Contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622, or First United Methodist Church of Uhrichsville, 225 North Dawson Street, Uhrichsville OH 44683.
