James E. Campbell, 86, of New Philadelphia, died early Monday morning, September 19, 2011 in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a sudden illness.A son of the late Edmund and Mary Alice (Haupert) Campbell, James was born June 22, 1925 at Uhrichsville, Ohio.He graduated from Uhrichsville High School in 1943 and later graduated from Ohio Northern University at Ada, Ohio in 1949 with a Bachelor’s degree in Science of Pharmacology. James was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving as Staff Sergeant during World War II as a Ball Turret Gunner on board B-17 aircraft.James was a co-owner and pharmacist at the former Campbell and Smith Pharmacy and the H & A Drug both at Uhrichsville. He then retired in 1988 from Peoples Drug Store at Uhrichsville. Following his retirement, James continued to work with various local pharmacies.He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church at Uhrichsville. James was a longtime Past President of the Board of Directors for Twin City Hospital at Dennison and was also a member of the 96th Bomb Group Association and the 8th Air Force Historical Society. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to Air Force reunions.He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Boggs) Wiggins-Campbell whom he married on September 17, 2007; three children, Connie (Jess) Henary of New Philadelphia, Gail (Bill) Patterson of Norwalk, Ohio and Jim (Lisa) Campbell of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Jesse (Laura) Henary, Kim (Chris) Fountain, Ryan (Lori) Henary, Bill Patterson, Heather (Rod) Wurts, Aric (Kate) Campbell, Lindsay (Josh) Adam and Erica and Chris Schlarb; 11 great grandchildren and two step children who reside in the state of Delaware.James was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorothy (Richner) Campbell and a brother, Richard Campbell.In keeping with James’ wishes, cremation will take place through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover. A memorial service celebrating James’ life will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia with Rev. Hugh Berry officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. A luncheon will follow the service in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.Contributions may be made in James’ memory to the First United Methodist Church, 420 East Third Street, Uhrichsville, OH 44663 or to a charity of one’s choice.
