James Collier Dill, 74, of New Philadelphia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Aultman Compassionate Care following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Edgar L. and Katherine (Kline) Dill, Collier was born September 14, 1944 at Belleville, Illinois.
Collier graduated from Dover High School in 1962. He later enlisted with the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.
Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Collier married the love of his life, the former Nancy Debevec, on June 21, 1969 and the couple raised a son, Joe.
Collier was a man of faith and worshipped at New Life Church of God and also led Bible Study at his home. He will be remembered by many for his love of God, his family and his country.
During his younger years, Collier worked as an operations manager for the former Nichol’s Department Store at Dover for 20 years. He then went to work as an agent for John Hancock Insurance and ultimately retired as the owner and operator of Dill Allstate Insurance Agency at Dover.
Collier was a former member of New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 and was an avid coin collector and dealer at the Dover Flea Market.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy; his son, Joe Dill of New Philadelphia; a grandson, Louis James Dill; a sister, Marcia (Stan) Bashore of Centerville, Ohio; a brother, Tom (Kathy) Dill of Columbus, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Gerry (Ron) Tinor of New Philadelphia; a brother-in-law, John (Rose) Debevec of North Canton and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Collier’s life will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Dode Overton officiating. Burial will follow in Holmes Church Cemetery. Following the committal service, a luncheon will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.
