James W. “Chip” Mackey, age 59, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, May 23, 2010, in his residence following a period of declining health.A son of the late John and Mary (Turson) Mackey, Chip was born at in Union Hospital at Dover on July 29, 1950.A member of New Philadelphia High School’s graduating class of 1968, Chip entered into an apprenticeship with the Firestone Company at Akron where he served as a precision machinist. He was later employed by Perkins Diesel at Canton and retired from Commercial Honing at Dover in the late 90’s.Chip enjoyed spending time with his family and providing for them. He looked forward to gatherings in which they could spend time together and share in each other’s activities. He also enjoyed the open road and was a life long motorcycle rider.Chip leaves behind his high school sweetheart and love of his life, the former Cheryl Moffitt, whom he married on February 20, 1971; three sons, Christopher Mackey, Craig (Sara) Mackey and Clay Mackey all of Dover; a sister, Patricia (Jim) Touse of Arkansas; two brothers, Bob (Linda) Mackey of Sherrodsville, and Mike Mackey; and a brother-in-law, James Maney both of Dellroy.A granddaughter, Sylvia Mackey of Dover; a step-mother-in-law, Shirley Moffit; a brother-in-law, and close friend, Pete (Cyndi) Moffitt all of New Philadelphia and numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.In addition to his parents, Chip was preceded in death by two sisters, Peg and Marilyn and two brothers, Chuck and Rick.In keeping with Chip’s wishes there will be no public visitation or services. Cremation will be conducted through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover.
