James C. Mattison, 84, of Stone Creek, died Monday, May 25, 2015 in Hennis Care & Retirement Center at Dover following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Walter and Thelma Mattison, James was born December 20, 1930 at Dover, Ohio.
James graduated from Sugarcreek High School and was a Korean War Veteran having served in the United States Army.
He retired after a lengthy career with the Times Reporter and also served as a Cub Master.
He is survived by his wife, Donna (Shaw) Mattison whom he married on February 16, 1991; his children, Randy Mattison of Dover and Chris (David) Ross of Stone Creek; step children, Vicki (Allen) Smith of Wilksville, Ohio, Robert (Darlene) Edinger of Wilmot and Renee (Jerry) Dubus of Ulysses, Nebraska; his grandchildren, Michael (Teresa) Ross, Rachel (Scott) Smith, Mary (Josh) Thomas, Eric Mattison, Jimmy Mattison and Randy Mattison Jr.; six great grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and 11 step-great grandchildren; his siblings, Edith Hiveley, Judy (Gary) Whitmer, Martha (Bill) Rosenberry and Walter “Butch” (Sue) Mattison and numerous nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, June Winkelman Mattison; a daughter, Debbie Doll Pew and his siblings, Ardene Van Pelt, Sally Schwartz, Helen Dillon and Robert “Bob” Mattison.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A funeral service celebrating James’ life will be held on Friday, May 29, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor William Haggis officiating. Burial will follow in St. Jacob’s Cemetery.
