James C. Day, 84, of Dover, died Monday, July 1, 2013 in Schoenbrunn Health Care at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.
A son of the late James Richard and Hazel Marie (Mathias) Day, James was born December 21, 1928 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.
James graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1947. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving during the Korean Conflict.
He was a longtime employee of Ruger Equipment and retired as a Foreman after 34 years of service. Following his retirement, James worked as a fundraiser for Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School for nearly 10 years.
James was a member of the Marine Corps League of Dover and was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed a variety of sports with his favorite team being the Ohio State Buckeyes. Most of all James cherished his grandchildren and the time spent with them.
He is survived by his loving wife, Estelle (Tamborini) Day whom he married on September 28, 1956; his children, Beth (Jerry) Weaver of Dover, Michele Day of Dover, Susan Wieser of Taylor Mill, Kentucky, David (Susan) Day of Columbus and Ann Day of Dover; eight grandchildren, Tiffany (Paul) Luc, Joshua and Melissa Wieser, Stacie Wickham, Austin and Jarret Day and Lauren and Ben Quartz; two great grandsons, Mason and Liam Luc; a sister, Doris Gurney of Dover and a sister-in-law, Ida Tamborini of Dover.
James was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Richard and Donald Day.
In keeping with James’ wishes, cremation will take place through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover and a private graveside service with military honors will be held in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
