James Bloom

James Austin Bloom, age 75, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, following a period of declining health.

Born on October 30, 1947, in Dennison, Ohio, Jim was a son of the late Austin Ardel Bloom and Kathleen Sue Moyer Bloom-Whyte.

In 1966, Jim entered into the United States Army where he served in Vietnam and Germany until his honorable discharge in 1969. On February 19, 1969, he married the love of his life, Sharon Rose Dennis. As a couple, they raised two daughters and have shared in nearly 54 years of marriage.

Jim was a 35-year employee of Greer Steel and later went to work for Oak Shadows Golf Course as a Maintenance and Groundskeeper. He was a longtime member of the Crooked Run Methodist Church and the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge BPOE 510 and served as the Past-President of the Dennison Eagles.

When not spending time with his family, Jim could be found following his passion, playing golf, enjoying fishing trips and making road trips to Wheeling Island.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by two daughters, Denise (Christopher) Harmon of New Philadelphia, and Jamie (Christopher) Meese of Dover; his beloved grandchildren, Leah and Jaxon Harmon, Savanah Luke, Raven and Shyla Meese, and three great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Hartlynn & Jeremiah.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Bloom.

The family will greet guests on Sunday, February 12, 2023, from 1-4 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A memorial service led by Pastor Shelly Nordine will be held in the funeral home’s chapel on Monday, February 13, 2023, at 10:30 AM. Burial with military honors will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
