James Richard Armstrong, age 69, of Jensen Beach, Florida, died February 7, 2023 in his home after a period of declining health.

Born December 4, 1953 in Crestline, Ohio, he was the son of the late Richard “Dick” and Patricia “Pat” (Anderson) Armstrong.

He was a 1972 graduate of North Canton Hoover High School, where he starred on their basketball team.  After high school graduation he went to Grove City College and then Ashland University where he earned a Master’s Degree in Education.  He taught at Hillard Middle School.  Jim also served as a basketball coach at the middle school.  After retirement in Florida, he became a substitute teacher for the Martin County School System.  He also enjoyed being with his family and friends, especially at the family farm and Leesville Lake.

Jim will be deeply missed by his sister, Susan (husband Jeff) Border of Dover; and brother, Murray Armstrong of Florida; niece, Elizabeth (husband Dennis) Klingensmith of N. Cuyahoga Falls; and 6 great-nieces and nephews, Danny, Greta, Clara, Peter, Joel, and Silas Klingensmith.

A public graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Amity Cemetery in Knox County in the Armstrong family plot.

Memorial contributions in Jim’s memory may be directed to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or a local hospice of your choice.
