James A. “Jamie” Mitchell, age 33, of Bowerston, died Easter Sunday afternoon as the result of injuries he sustained in a farm equipment accident. A loving husband to his wife Amanda, and two daughters, LeeAnna, age 6, and Autumn, age 5, James returned in 2005 from serving in Iraq as a member of the 706th Transportation Company, based at Mansfield. Born May 20, 1974, at Dover, he was a son of Diane Emery Fowler and her husband, Dennis Fowler, and the late Albert James Mitchell, who died in 1994. Best known as Jamie to his family and friends, he graduated from Conotton Valley High School in 1993, where he studied in the electrical program at Buckeye Career Center. Immediately following graduation, Jamie entered the United States Marine Corps, and served six years, until 1999, when he returned to the area to be closer to his family. While a student at Kent State University Tuscarawas Campus the following year, he met and quickly fell in love with a classmate, Amanda Patterson. The couple wed August 19, 2000. The following year, their family grew with their firstborn, LeeAnna, and a short time later with a second daughter, Autumn. James began working with The Timken Company at about the same time, but duty called, and as part of the Army Reserve, he was deployed to Iraq with the 706th Transportation Company between November 2003, and February, 2005.Jamie returned to family life, and to his work at The Timken Company. He took great joy in helping his neighbors, his family, and friends. Jamie was happiest though, when with his daughters and wife, whether fishing, spending an evening cooking together, or tinkering in his garage. He leaves behind a loving family, that in addition to his wife and daughters of the home, include his mother Diane, and her husband Dennis, of Sherrodsville, his mother and father-in-law, Thomas and Karen Quinn Patterson, of Bowerston, two sisters, Laura (husband Dan) Renicker of Sherrodsville, and their three children, Bethany, Braiden, and Bryanna; sister Jennifer (husband Michael) Booth of Sherrodsville and their four children, Dylan, Brody, Gavin and Alexis; and a brother, Dennis (Wife Alyssa) Mitchell of Sherrodsville, and their daughter Kenly. A Brother-in-law, Christopher (companion Natalie Snyder) Patterson, of Maysville, Kentucky. Numerous aunts, uncles, great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins and comerades from the Marine Corps and those he served alongside in the Army Reserve during the Iraq War, complete the family. The family will receive friends Friday, March 28, from 2-4 and from 6-8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Steve Bowling will officiate the Mitchell Funeral Saturday morning at 10:30 in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Sherrodsville Memory Gardens. A meal hosted by friends will follow in the Sherrodsville Wesleyan Church. James’s family requests that, instead of flowers, contributions be made to the savings accounts of his two daughters at any Citizen’s Bank location, or by mail to the Citizen’s Bank at Sherrodsville, PO Box 222, Sherrodsville, OH 44675, or by sharing stories and memories of James with his daughter’s later in life, so they may one day better know the man they call dad.
